Coping with Travel Uncertainty: Navigating the Unknown with Destiny Calling

The global landscape has been reshaped by the relentless waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving in its wake an overwhelming sense of uncertainty. For those venturing far from the familiar rhythms of home, this uncertainty can be particularly daunting. At Destiny Calling, we understand the heightened anxiety experienced by our abroad work permit holders and overseas interns, and we want to assure you that your well-being is our top priority.

In the face of the pandemic, Destiny Calling has maintained direct communication with all our students, facilitating the safe return of many to their families. The comprehensive well-being of our students remains at the forefront of our efforts, with arrangements made to ensure those who remain abroad are receiving proper care.

Even before the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak, apprehension about travel was not uncommon. Whether it's navigating a bustling airport or concerns triggered by external factors like caffeine or low blood sugar, we recognize the need to address and mediate these feelings.

Tips to help you cope with travel uncertainty:

1 - Target Your Triggers:

Identify specific aspects of travel causing distress and be proactive in addressing them. External stimulants like caffeine or low blood sugar may contribute to anxiety, and recognizing these triggers is the first step toward finding solutions.

2. Plan for Emergencies:

Alleviate fear by preparing for worst-case scenarios. Consider scenarios such as running out of money and plan accordingly, ensuring you have contingency measures in place, such as a friend who can wire funds or carrying a paper map and an extra phone charger.

3. Ensure Home Readiness:

Ease your worries by thoroughly preparing for your absence. Arrange for pet-sitting, plant watering, and mail retrieval, and provide detailed to-do lists for your helpers. Over-preparation can bring peace of mind.

4. Bring an Activity:

Combat anxiety by keeping your mind engaged. Bring along activities for travel and downtime, whether it's a book, puzzle, craft, knitting, or any other hobby. Distract yourself from worry by having a positive focus.

5. Learn Relaxation Techniques:

Explore relaxation techniques or download a yoga or guided meditation app to generate positive vibes. Incorporating these practices into your routine can contribute to a sense of calm and well-being.
